cHOROS - ResidentialLattimore Road, St Albans, a residential scheme for Nicholas King Homes. Awarded a St Albans Civic Award 1999.
cHOROS were asked to prepare a design for the hard and soft landscape
surrounding a disused hat factory. The scheme was eventually demolished
and rebuilt but the majority of open space is located above the underground
car park. The location and quantity of trees and shrubs were limited by
the underground car park, a listed brick chimney and the requirements
for fire access. cHOROS utilised porphyry stone setts, pavers and granite setts to delineate footpath routes and private zones ie immediately in front of windows. A Chinese granite circle was included in the paving design to echo the form of a hat to reflect the buildings original use. Stanhope Road, Shepherds Hill, London, N6.
cHOROS were commissioned to design the exterior layout and planting for a high quality residential apartments in Highgate, north London.
Space was limited and it was important to provide the necessary car parking
and access requirements whilst creating an attractive setting and privacy
for the residents. cHOROS was later commissioned by several of the new
residents to design and implement their private balconies (each apartment
had either one, two or three balconies). Thorn EMI Courtyard
cHOROS prepared a design for the internal courtyard within a new office development. The design was based on a traditional Japanese building elevation and was intended to provide interest and texture when viewed from the offices above.
