The Amman Comprehensive Development Plan, Jordan.

cHOROS prepared a landscape strategy to contribute to the Amman Comprehensive Development Plan. The Master Plan extended from the ‘Y’ shape river valleys in the west where the native vegetation included almond trees, across central Amman to the desert in the east.

cHOROS carried out with a landscape and visual impact survey and collected data on existing soils and compared this to areas where Amman was already committed to extending, planned to extend and future options. Work was collated on the ground in Amman in the form of large sieve maps.



The work was carried in consultation with Amman University who were carrying out trials to use water catchment techniques to harvest rain water for use in arable crops and animal husbandry.

Studies had shown that by enclosing the land in the east and preventing the nomadic grazing it was possible to establish a natural landscape with a character of its own rather than desert.
